Taking sounds with effects added using a multi-effects processor or other such device and the sounds in DRIVE mode and playing them through multiple amps allows you to produce an extremely low sound with greater separation. It generates a tone one octave below the input, and can also produce a second extra tone two octaves below the input. This gives you the ability to blend up to three individual sounds: the original note, a note one octave below and one that's two octaves below. The OC-3 also has a Drive knob that adds in distortion to the octave tone, for a growling bass distortion or a fuzzy synth sound. Since you're able to input chords as well as single notes, this greatly expands the usability of the effect versus its predecessor, the OC-2. Also, when used as a bass effect, the OC-3 automatically optimizes itself to suit the range of a bass guitar. It is also quite common that customers throw outTry Google Search! Scott Gong 2.0 out of 5 stars I have a Boss RC-300 and I love it so I figured I'd give this one a shot to up my looping game. I'm using this pedal with an acoustic guitar that has a magnetic pickup. Overall a very disappointing pedal. It doesn't track well in any mode even when I am very careful in playing notes cleanly (I have no other pedals in my setup except the looper downstream). I tried all of the settings in the user manual and toyed around with it for a few hours and couldn't get a good sound. Before returning it, I purchased a TC electronics Sub n Up for comparison. The TC electronics pedal is far better than the OC-3 and around the same price to boot. I will be returning the OC-3 and keeping the Sub n Up.How I use it is to add a bass octave to my solo acoustic shows, and I hit the body of my guitar to make drum sounds, and this pushes the bass out a little when I do that. I've not used the distortion or double octave settings. What this has that all other octave pedals lack is an adjustable crossover, so you can decide how much of the guitar's fretboard, from low to high, will have a doubled low-octave note.http://schlammatlas.de/en/node/18201 Nothing else will do that, so this is a great pedal! The tracking is so bad it makes this pedal unusable. If I hold down a B or lower on my guitar, the note wobbles up and down between the current note and octave. Would not recommend this to anyone who actually needs a pedalWe tried adding a bass guitarist but that wasn't right for our music because it made it merely sound like we needed a drummer. This pedal gave us just enough bass that we needed without sounding so much as though we have a bassist. It's a very subtle but nice warm sound. You can adjust the range at which the device hears your low notes and plays them an octave lower, so, typically I have mine set from low E to the open D or so. My only dissatisfaction with it is if I ever play notes between the low note and the top D, the pedal picks up those notes and plays those as well, an octave lower. I have to be careful with my left hand to not let those notes ring or the bass sounds like mud. I wish there were one that truly only listened to the lowest note because I would like to be able to play power chords without the fifth also being played on bass. This doesn't do that. What is most impressive to me is the ability to adjust the range of notes you want to sound an octave down - very accurate - even with miked vibes. The tone quality is in the very good range - you will hear some of the timbre of the original notes. Because it has the means to adjust the volume level of both original note and the octave down note, you may be able to get the resulting timbre coloser to the original note. The pedal is pricey, but worth it - quality construction and excellent tonal results. This may be partly due to using shorter cables all the way around, they may have designed this to deal with longer runs more typical of live music. I like the sound you can get out of it, my solution to the distortion will be to isolate this in a separate affects loop. The quality of the bass sound works just fine in this case.http://germanbandhsv.com/images/boss-oc-3-super-octave-manual.pdf This is preferable to me carrying one extra giant multi-effects pedal. So save your self all the trouble and just by this and you won’t look back.Sorry, we failed to record your vote. Because the OC-2 was not created as a polyphonic pedal, if more than one note is played, the note tracking circuitry will not be able to keep up. This tends to create sounds that are more like a cacophony than multi-octave chords being played; of course, this may be the sound you're looking for. The OC-2 makes a good (and far more portable) substitute for the Eventide. However, you'll also see that the output at pins 1, and 7 for all of J, I, H, G, F, and E are connected and feed back into pins 2 and 5, respectively.http://www.gradur.ba/wp-content/plugins/formcraft/file-upload/server/content/files/1626f560e42d35---bosch-wfk2801-instruction-manual.pdf This appears to us to be negative feedback, lowering the total amplification, but adding signal stability. If anyone is more knowledgeable about this, we'd love to be updated for the most accurate explanation possible.Afterwards, it should be fairly easy to track the Octave1 and Octave2 signals running parallel through similar circuit architecture. Switching to this mode gives you three individual sounds; your original note, an octave below and another that’s two octaves below. This true polyphony is a first for a compact pedal. Using the MODE knob you select one of the four aforementioned modes while CONTROL knob’s function changes in relation to the mode you have selected. This allows you to adjust the range in which the octave effect is applied, extending into higher frequencies as you turn it clockwise while turning it anti-clockwise limits the effect to lower frequencies. When you’re in DRIVE mode, the CONTROL knob allows you to adjust the amount of distortion in your sound. With the OC-3, both bassists and guitarists can get ultra-stable octave sounds. New to the first mode is a distortion effect, with which one can make the sound even more aggressive; always a good choice if you don't want to play the typical Wes Montgomery octaves. In addition in the second (OC-2) mode, a second tone, another octave lower, can be mixed to the signal (though, in this case, you should be really playing very high notes - the speaker will thank you for that). Of course you can do that with a pitch shifter, but rarely without audible delay - in this respect, the BOSS Octaver is much tighter and is also much cheaper. What it lacks is some features. First of all it only produces lower octaves.https://1sis.com/wp-content/plugins/formcraft/file-upload/server/content/files/1626f561936fe7---bosch-wfk2801-manual.pdf So you can only play a note and get the lower octave out of it, not the higher one. And then it has another option for a 2nd lower octave which is, to me.basically useless. Unless you wanna mud up your sound completely, it doesn't serve any purpose. I'd much prefer if it had an octave up AND down. The drive feature embedded on this octave pedal (for some weird reason?) is actually pretty good so there's that. The multi-tracking option isn't that reliable but it's decent. Which is, again, a bit weird. All in all a sturdy pedal, like Boss has a reputation for, but lackluster when it comes to sound options. On the E string, the pedal has trouble tracking the notes and gives a warbley flickering effect - this is disappointing. The controls do little to rectify this. But if you mostly play a little higher it should be no problem for you. Brilliant sound, no clipping and jumping in octaves like the first pedal I had. The OC-3 picks up where the best-selling OC-2 left off, giving guitarists two brand new octave effects. Using the Polyphonic Octave mode, octaves can now be added when playing chords - a first in a compact pedal. More aggressive sounds can be had using the new Drive mode, which adds a touch of distortion to the octave sounds. This gives you the ability to blend up to three individual sounds: the original note, a note one octave below and one that’s two octaves below. The OC-3 isn’t just for guitar, it’s also for bass. By connecting a bass guitar to the designated Bass input, the OC-3 automatically optimizes itself to suit the frequency range of a bass guitar.Sam Ash takes this time with you to get exactly what you need and nothing you don't! The bass frequency sounds a bit artificial. You'll find that it also degrades the output volume of your signal as well, so a boost or eq pedal is a nice addition with it, it seems. I did use this in a Bose house surround system and it sounded absolutely stunning. A nice addition on the right song. You can dial in this pedal so many different ways it's unbelievable. I don't know what the other's problems with use are, I thought this pedal was very easy to DIAL IN and get many sounds but I guess if you don't have a GOOD EAR then maybe you will have issues. So whether your looking to make your own distinct sound (EVH, Navarro, Slash, Morello, etc.) or simply add some PHAT-FUNK sound this is your pedal. Very Versatile and Capable of a Wide Variety of Sounds.I really enjoy the polyphonic octave setting. As stated above, it is a bit difficult to use (especially with the polyphonic, you have to set the dials perfectly to get stable chords). But any difficulty in use eventually fades away as you begin to use it more.I would suggest this to any bass player. It is not very good with guitars because it does not handle chords to well. Sadly, in our experience, this pedal might not be good enough to consider, even on a budget. Although it is not the worst octave box we have seen, its tonal realities as well as its questionable live application make this pedal one to stay away from. The lack of the octave up makes this far less desirable than other octave pedals on the market. This is the case in both inputs. When the optional setting knob is changed, the rest of the pedal must be recalibrated for the pedal to sound even slightly good. This makes live use tenuous and frustrating. How long have you been using it?What other pedals do you use this pedal with?Or does this pedal have far more functions than you need? Using the Polyphonic Octave mode, octaves can now be added when playing chords-a first in a compact pedal. More aggressive sounds can be had using the new Drive mode, which adds a touch of distortion to the octave sounds. That's why the OC-3 includes that classic “dual octave” effect, but with even better stability. By connecting a bass guitar to the dedicated Bass input, the OC-3 automatically optimizes itself to suit the range of a bass guitar. That kind of thinking is not true for guitar players, keyboard players or drummers. Why should it be true for bass players? Using bass effects can range from a subtle augmentation to all out tone colouring and can even inspire your playing style. No matter what you want to do, or what you play, there’s a bass effect out there from which you’ll benefit by adding to your rig. Glad you asked. It’s all about a bass guitar being a bass guitar. Because a guitar has a specific frequency range that it produces sound in (usually the mid-range), the effect will work within that range as well. Bass guitars work in lower frequency ranges, so bass effects are specifically voiced to work in similar frequencies as well. It’s just like choosing the right tool for the right job. These are usually spatial ones, like reverb and delay. We’ll break down each effect and tell you what they’re capable of. Often, the more “subtle” effects used on bass guitar are the most powerful. Compression is an effect that’s so useful, audio engineers often add it to every element in a recording mix. Mastering engineers will add it at the final master stage as well. Quiet notes will become louder and louder notes will become softer. It should go without saying that this is perfect for a great bass sound! It gives you a natural, multiband compression by intelligently analysing every aspect of your playing in multiple dimensions. Your overall bass sound will improve significantly and you might even become a better player as a result, thanks to the clarity and fullness that this compressor brings. And when it comes to tone, you won’t know that the BC-1X is there, except for when it’s switched off. One of the BC-1X’s strengths however, is its tonal transparency. This is one pedal that will absolutely make you sound and play better, and if there’s one pedal that bass players everywhere can bring into their existing rig and playing style without compromising a thing, it’s this one. Along with a tuner, it could be considered essential. That’s a big question to answer but one reason would have to be because of its ability to generate a fat, low-end thump.Octave effects are pitch-based effects, so they add a second version of your input signal either higher or lower in pitch than the original signal. Set the first octave to one octave lower than your original pitch. Set the second octave to two octaves lower than the original pitch. Then, put on a hard hat because you’ll have the building’s foundations trembling! Funk, Hip-Hip and RnB sound great with a fat bass low end, as do heavier Rock and Metal styles like Stoner, Doom and Grunge. Reggae, Soul and Jazz players can benefit from the OC-3 as well, especially when using it with a cleaner tone for a clear, deep sound. This is an effect you’d use to compliment your existing sound with and to increase aspects of it. The added drive from these effects produces harmonics, sustain and colour, which provides liveliness and excitement to your bass tone. The “space” you lack from a 4th instrument like a guitar or a keyboard for instance, will allow the bass more freedom to groove. Adding the extra harmonics and drive to the bass’ sound fills this space nicely. This goes hand in hand with styles like Punk, Metal and Rock, as well as fringier experimental areas, like Noise. Using the same intelligent processing technology as the BC-1X Compressor does, the BB-1X analyses your input signal in multiple dimensions. With drive options that range from subtle to absurd, the BB-1X makes it simple to sculpt your perfect bass sound. Use the BB-1X to shape your sound, but to bolster your dynamics as well. With massive gain and a tailored EQ section, the ODB-3 has you covered for all your heavy bass distortion needs. We even know guitar players who use them! Bring the dirt! It’s a style of music that has the good sense to put the bass at the fore and keep it there. As such, adding a filter effect to a bass guitar is an ideal accompaniment. A filter is a kind of effect that focuses on specific frequencies.
