We recommend installing a separate power supply transformer (3M part number 78-8095-0910-8), for each Station Selector located over 100 feet from the Communications Controller, The RS 485 cable carries DC power for the Station Selectors, requiring a larger gauge wire. A separate power supply (3M part number 78-8095-0910-8) must be plugged into each Station Selector that exceeds the three Station Selector limit. We recommend installing a separate power supply if the cable length from the Station Selector to the Communications Controller exceeds 100 feet. Edwards 5.0 out of 5 stars First, I wanted to check their accuracy. In a controlled environment, using a calibrated precision reference thermometer, I determined that both IR thermometers were very close. They both measured 1.2 degrees Fahrenheit above the reference temperature. I made these tests at 75-degree room temperature where the temperature of the target was also 75 degrees. Each thermometer was triggered for 5 seconds before taking the reading. I shielded my body heat from the thermometers. I took a reading every day, 2 times per day for 5 consecutive days. The results were always the same 1.2 degrees above the reference temperature of 75 degrees. The thing that was the most impressive to me is the fact that they both were calibrated and performed exactly the same. They were very solid - their readings did not fluctuate. Next, I walked around with them and simultaneously measured temperatures of various surfaces with varying temperature ranges. Both thermometers always agreed with each other giving exactly the same reading, right down to the tenth of a degree (note they increment in.2 as opposed to.1) Also impressive is the fact that I can shoot the same spot over and over again and receive the exact same reading. Most other IR thermometers do not have the stability that these do. It is important that a measurement device is stable and consistent, especially when doing differential comparisons of surfaces. I've used Raytek and some other brands for years but the Flukes beat all of the other ones I have tried. It was an interesting side-project testing their performance. I hope that others will find this information useful.Obviously opened before. Dead on arrival Tried include battery. Tried two new batteries. Tested all batteries used. All batteries full charge. Pressed every button on the unit. Held down every button on the unit. Tried holding multiple buttons down. But the SET and SEL buttons that are supposed to let me change parameters (like toggling from centigrade to fahrenheit, etc) do not work. I'm 73, so I can remember a time when Fluke made absolutely outstanding, bullet proof, top of the food chain products. Alas, no more. Another once great company has apparently bitten the dust.Add a plus get another beam When I got my 62max I was kinda shocked, wondering where the 2 beams were. This tool is easy to setup, It can measure temps in F or C deg and the backlight for the readout is just the right brilliance for low light conditions. I have no way of telling how accurate it is but I did run this test. I put a mercury thermometer in my attic and measured the temp as 154d F then I compared that with the Fluke which read 153d F by pointing it into the attic from my Garage. I also ran a surface check of the inside surface temperature of my Garage door and got 84d F the Fluke 62 MAX also read 84d F.It seemed to work fine for a while then stopped working even after a battery change. Unfortunately it was just out of warranty. I expected a better quality unit from Fluke. I'm sure I only used it maybe two dozen times.I picked this one because it has the same specs for temperature reading as my old one but was half the price. I own other Fluke products and have been happy. The instruction manual is in many languages (including english) but it's all pictorial in nature. You have to look very closely at the pictures to determine what exactly it's telling you about set up and use. It takes one AA battery which was provided in the package (Duracell). I tested it by pointing it at a pot of boiling water. After correcting for elevation it was within 1 degree of where it should have been. I use this tool in mechanical troubleshooting, finding engine cylinders that are running hotter or colder than the others to pinpoint which cylinder has the problem. I also use it in electrical to determine temperature of components. This gun is solid and well made with a somewhat cushioned grip so it won't slip as well as drop protection. It's a lot more expensive than some of the offerings at around 10-20 quid, but it's much more reliable and accurate than some of them. It has two laser spots and the measuring area is between them (not exclusively but thereabouts). I have used this to check my oven temp (spot on) and also the temperature of my car's engine compared to the OBD reading (to check the sender is working correctly). Also used it to check the curing temperature of paint on a freshly baked intake manifold. I also used it to check the exhaust temps were similar on each branch of the exhaust manifold. The user guide is a little difficult to follow as it's entirely pictures and barely any explanatory writing. Below is some EMS info that i found by trawling the web as the EMS setting is not easily explained in the manual. EMS: The EMS setting on this device is not easy to understand initially. Essentially it is the ability of the surface to be measured by it's emissiveness of heat. Dull matt materials work better than shiny bright ones. If you need to measure a bright shiny material, you may need to attach something dull to it (like a piece of black tape) or decrease the emissiveness value on the thermometer.Sorry, we failed to record your vote. Made in Washington,USA and not a poorly made Chinese or Taiwanese imitations. The divice itself is of ergonomic deign, rubber coated and comfortable to hold in the hand. The display is easily read in all lighting conditions, thanks to its subtle blue backlight. The divice gives both accurate and consistent readings and has a duel laser allowing more accurate readings over distance. The ratio being 12:1, so for every foot you are off the target it will scan one inch. Ten foot, ten inches. You get the picture. It is extremely smart looking cute I will cost a lot less than the original Fluke case intended for the device. Another plus is the unit is IP 50 for water resistant and can clearly be seen by the stable around the battery compartmentSorry, we failed to record your vote.
