Because there's not much space on the wall for the pole so I would have liked the detector to be accurate as little as 1cm (diameter in circle). After buying this detector I realised I was a bit naive to have my expectation so high. It did work as in telling you there's something inside the wall roughly around the 5cm (diameter in circle). Though sometimes it gave me confusing result, such as beeping at one spot and when you rescanned the same spot a few seconds later, it didn't beep for some reason. What I think it did though was that if there was definitely no beeping, no matter how many times you scanned that spot, then it's definitely safe. If it was beeping around the area but you really need to put the screw in, then it was all down to guess work, as we did in the end. This is because, as other reviewers have mentioned, it is very sensitive and you can find it can be complaining about metal lathing under the plaster or harmless nails in battens a few centimetres away from the supposed sweet-spot.
