I appreciate it most when tackling repairs on doors or architrave when space is tight and you only want to address a specific area while leaving everything else untouched.Well I bought this tool to make neat cuts on sheet metal for car repair and that was the only reason I bought it.I don't care about cutting speed just neatness and in that respect this is great little tool (yes I've got tin snips.angle grinders etc etc but I want to be able to neatly cut one layer at a time). I always think a useful tool will end up being reached for again and again.as it happens I'm having a kitchen fitted.the power sockets were in the wrong place. Wow - what can I say - went through the fire rated plasterboard no problem.but the real treat was how neat the cuts were.bearing in mind my walls were fully finished so I wanted a nice neat job.so neat that the socket box slid in with a nice tight fit. Then there was a change of plans on the plumbing.pipes for plinth heaters sticking out in the wrong place.quick cuts and I had the floor neatly cut so the pipes could be trimmed flush and capped off. Overall.no this isn't a substitute for my band saw or a wall chaser or jig saw or whatever else.I've got those already and will continue to use them where appropriate.so don't expect this to cut like a band saw. That isn't the point.this tool is about doing jobs the other tools can't do.or doing small finishing jobs extremely neatly.in that respect this is a great tool to have. I have a garage of tools.you name it.I've got it.but this tool can simply and easily do some jobs very neatly that the others would make a mess of and require lots of finishing and re-decorating. Yes I could have used a stanley knife to cut the socket box out.but it would not have been neat.then I'd be faffing around to get the box in the wall.I've not used all the attachments yet, but will say this about the ones I've used: The segmented blade has a multitude of uses. It's brilliant for precision cuts in floorboards, plasterboard and cement board, and makes much less dust than a circular saw or jigsaw. Also very good for cutting plastic waste pipes. The flat blade saws are great for precise cuts in harder to reach places like the bottom of a door architrave. The sander is ideal for detailed work or just quick jobs like removing burrs from a cut pipe (not that the blade leaves much burring). The only thing I've been less impressed with was trying to cut off a couple of nail remnants in wood. It managed it, but was slow and not a patch on an angle grinder. Last but not least, because of the way it works (vibrating back and forth as opposed to rotating) it will not cut soft or elastic materials, such as skin. Not that I'm advocating careless use of power tools, but I have accidentally touched the blade once or twice (after switching off but while the motor was still running down), without any injury or even pain. Best power tool I've bought in years.I deliberated quite a while before going ahead with the purchase but haven't regretted it once. The main benefit is being able to cut holes in confined spaces. The kitchen units I replaced had been installed when the house was built so water pipes came through holes in the base of the sink unit. Without this tool, getting the old unit out would have been a nightmare. One of my original objectives was to use it to remove old tiles and, whereas it was good at getting rid of grout, taking the tiles off took a lot of effort, lots of dust and took ages. So, I can't give it full marks for that application. If you want to remove tiles, get yourself an SDS hammer stop drill.works wonders. Two other great applications for this tool are cutting holes in dry wall to install electric fittings - very neat, very quick. Finally, its ability to remove silicone sealant has been a godsend. If you have ever tried getting that stuff off you know what I mean - this is the only method I have found so far that works. One last word of advice, this tool is VERY noisy so make sure you a good pair of ear defenders or some good ear plugs before you start to use it.How wrong was I? This is one of those tools that you think 'probably don't need that'. Once you have one though, that thought turns into 'how did I live without it?'. I've used it for loads of little jobs where it's just been so handy. Cutting out for electrical boxes in plasterboard - this gives a super precise plunge cut and perfect neat opening. Cutting broken fasteners, quick precise wood cuts on trim. I haven't tried using it as a sander as I already have a delta sander, but by the looks of it I think it would probably work well enough at that as well. A part of me wishes I had the battery version as it would be even more convenient to pull out of the toolbox, but on the other hand I'm a DIY user so inevitably I would probably always find the battery would be flat so I'm happy to have a cable.
