To start viewing messages,I suspected this as its nearly 4 years since the battery was replaced. You have been of great help, thank you!FYI, our EDM Solution 862 home alarm system recently showing the Fault icon, and the symptom is similar to BRISBOY first post. Based on our manual Fault Analysis Mode, it shows zone indicator number 1, and the fault description for number 1 is Battery Fail. Please advise. Regards, PeterOR you have lost your AC which should show up as AC fail on the codepad. This means that the system won't die even quicker when running on battery if a high-draw output starts to operate. I can't recall whether this option is enabled or not by default. However (and again I'm not entirely sure) I'm pretty sure it would only disable the outputs if RUNNING on battery, not if the battery were low BUT there were AC power available. I trust that confuses matters further.I just purchased a new battery and will attempt to replace it. Question: shall I turn off the mains so that I dont get an earfull when I open the cover? You know, right where the criminals can watch the PIN being entered. In terms of new versus old, I note that many of the more modern panels don't even make it to market here. It's one thing if an 'old' panel keeps on ticking and refuses to die or give the homeowner an excuse to upgrade. It's another however where they are sold as new kits to installers. You don't see Holden selling ten year old cars, nor would anybody buy one new. But that time was long ago.Close the panel, then arm and disarm the alarm to force a battery test and clear the fault on the keypad. It's another however where they are sold as new kits to installers. So why do people buy ten or more year old alarm systems? Alarm panels have also improved dramatically over the years (remember back to the Ledlux 2-zone module in a cassette case and the Ness DSR2 2-zone module that had no siren cut-off time!) to the current crop. Again, the technology has improved, but the basic operating principles haven't changed much over the years. So a lot of installers are happy to sell and end-users are happy to buy a simple, reliable alarm system at a reasonable price. Sure, I offer all the bells and whistles to my customers, and advise them of the benefits, but ultimately the choice is theirs. As you know, Bosch offer a two-tier range of alarm panels, to suit pretty much all requirements. The same applies to pretty much all the other brands of alarm panels available today for the domestic and small commercial market. Sure, give them the option, but the reality is that the customer won't always appreciate the difference, and will probably go with the cheaper quote. They will be happy since they now have an alarm system, and won't necessarily be fussed about the user-friendliness of the keypad display (besides, who do you think they call when the FAULT or SERVICE light comes on and they can't find or couldn't be bothered to look in the user manual )Some panels will still work until the battery gets down to 10V or less, so the horn speaker or DC siren will start to sound like a strangled chook until the battery dies.
