The fact that you can see your clean clothes through the window, but just can’t reach them only adds to the frustration of the situation! But first things first, please remember to switch off and unplug your appliance before starting your fix. Look inside your machine, if you can see that it’s still filled with water it would appear there’s a drainage issue. The most likely place a blockage will be found is the filter; here’s how to check it: Once you’ve managed to successfully drain your machine you should be able to open the door. In this case the handle is most likely broken. Luckily there are two ways to manually open your washing machine door. Simply pull the wire or line sideways, gently but firmly, towards the handle to release the door catch and open the door. Unscrew the top of the washing machine and lift it off so you can access the back of the door catch. You’ll be able to push on the tip of the catch to release it. You may need a flathead screwdriver to help you if the catch is too stiff or fiddly to release with your fingers. It works by heating up and expanding, so even when the washing machine is switched off the door won’t unlock immediately. The trick is to leave the washing machine disconnected for about five minutes so the lock can cool and release. Then you should be able to open your door. In this case, striking the catch area firmly may let you release it. However, they’re certainly a good starting point for most machines as the three issues above are the most common problems stopping a washing machine door from opening. Have you noticed your washing machine is emptying slowly or not emptying at all. Any way to get the door open from the outside. I have tried from every direction and I dont think I can do it that way, unless there is a manual release which I can't find. If not, how can I release it from the inside. I popped the lid off and can just get my fingers onto the interlock but can't figure out how to release it. Do I actually need to remove it. And if so what is the best approach. Thanks A very frustrated Paul!Get the machine to unlock it for you i.e. select the shortest program which is Drain and runs for just 1 minute and listen for the door to unlock (the load click) when the program is finished. Let me know if this does the trick. Thanks fo your suggestion though. Any further thoughts?About the only way to get it open now is to use a strong piece of twine, fishing line, wire, etc.Is the aim to get the wire to go 'through' the seal and over the bulge of the door glass? Then pull both ends equally hard towards the door hinge.I've tried this for about 15 minutes with no luck. Then I glance at the old door and notice that the catch springs towards the hinge, and therefore needs to be moved away from the hinge to open. I hink my string approach, which i think did connect with the latch due to the angle of the string, would be pullng the latch towards the hinge, so tighter shut. What am i missing? CheersOpen this, it hinges downward and can then be pulled off the machine completely. Inside there on the right hand side you should see a red tag hanging down. There is a small very weak edge that pushes the strong metal door latch. The edge breaks off. Good Luck. Like Report TurnerH 3 years ago Same answer as Sam k. Very poor design. Try turning the power to the machine off and open the panel at the front and pull down on the emergency opening thing bottom right. If it still wont open that little plastic that Sam K talks about is broken. The only way to open it then it to stick a long screw driver in behind the door while you are pulling it outward and try to move the steel catch. If you manage to get it open you will need a new handle. I also can't open the door though am assuming it's because the water temperature is still too hot. When I choose a cycle and it shows say 50 minutes after about 15-20 minutes of it running it will suddenly show well over an hour. I have to stop it and restart. This worked for a while and now it just continues each time I use it. I am unable to use it at this point. I agree with all the others on this page. For the cost of these machines they should not have issues within a few years of use. Other than calling the 1 300 number you ask everyone to do what are my options. Is this a costly repair or should I just cut my loses and purchase a new machine. Like Share More 1 answer Bosch H. I cannot believe what I found The door catch is all based on a tiny little plastic nib that is designed to release a metal catch. Such a poor design. How is a tiny piece of plastic supposed to have the resilience required to exert pressure on a metal catch over the life of the machine. Why would Bosch put such a cheap crappy component in a key part that is used so often?? I used to think they had a really great reputation but reading this forum no one seems to get more than 3 years out of their Bosch machine without something going wrong. I've had it in the garage for about three years and need to call on it as my old Bosch pump has died on the previous unit (hoping to use it while I fix the old one). I plugged it in connected the water and turned it on. I heard a buzzing noise from the circuit board (relay chattering?) and the control panel flashed dimly., then nothing. No, they normally wait until they’ve finished washing your clothing, and then they decide to stay closed. Reasons why your washing machine door might be stuck The door could stay jammed even when water has been properly pumped out if there is a faulty pressure switch or a blockage in the pressure system, as it could be trapping the air that's operating the door lock. On some machines if the pressure switch doesn’t reset, it keeps the door lock energized. Turning off the machine at the mains should allow the door lock to cool down and open after a few minutes. Interlocks can take some time to release at the end of the cycle, so be patient. The most common cause is water left in machine. If this fails, the machine can be drained by placing the washing machine drain hose lower than the drum (into a bucket or tray). The door interlock has simply jammed. Call an engineer. The door catch, handle, or some part of the door catch mechanism is broken and not opening the door. How to open the jammed door Never ever use force. Call a repair man to fix your machine and help you rescue the captured clothes, hopefully as quickly as possible. Then wash again with Ariel to get your great results back. What's worse is when there is still water inside the drum and opening the door water will cause water to flow everywhere. To avoid this messy situation, here are some steps that will help you if this happens with your washer. Read through these tips carefully before starting any work on your washer, and if it does not apply to your model, you will need to reach out to a professional technician. If the lid is locked, simply unplug the washer from its power source. Wait about 10 minutes, and see if the lid has unlocked itself. If the lid is still locked, you'll need to have the washer serviced to determine the exact cause of the failure. Latch assembly replacement may be needed, or in some cases it could be control related. For safety reasons, unplug the appliance before service. If your washer has a handle that actually lifts when you open the door, the latch can be released. You'll need a string or small gauge wire, long enough to wrap around the entire door. Slide the string or wire under the door edge starting on the latch side, keeping hold of each end of the string. Rotate the wire so you're able to pull the ends toward the hinge side of the door. Pull the string by both ends toward the hinge side until the latch is released and door pops open. To access the latch, unplug the power supply. If there is water showing above the door line it must be drained prior to this process (lowering the drain hose or using the cancel drain button where applicable,) from the washer. First remove the lower access panel. You will need to wear protective gloves and arm protection performing this task. Reach up from the access area to the latch assembly and pull the latch to release the door. It's recommended to replace the door latch assembly if this has occurred. Keep in mind that most door latch failures are normally the result of a component failure and will need to be diagnosed to determine exact cause. Contact a professional technician if you're uncertain or not confident to perform these diagnoses or repairs. We have had the repairman out several times because the washer doesn't spin out completly, and there are also times that I have to hold the washer down while it runs and shakes through the spin cycle. We were told to put throw rugs down on either side of the washer to prevent the machine from ruining the woodwork and trim on the laundry room floor and cabinet. Not an answer, but so far, that's all we've gotten after 3 visits from the certified repairman. We it bought as replacement to our 12 yr old Maytag and have been upset with spending such a large amount of money on such a poorly functioning washer. Often items need to washed twice to clean properly and we always have to run the extra rinse cycle. The supposed savings in energy and water never materialized and if you want to wash a pair of jeans the washer will not spin. Will never buy anything by Bosch manufactured by Bosch again. Also, I get an error message if I wash too many towels. If the machine isn't getting the water out of the clothes, try cleaning this hose. I have also had the dryer repaired about 3 times because it stops heating. It is also very squeaky. I wouldn't buy another Bosch. I am hearing very bad evaluation of both, especially of the dryer. What I do not understand, only reading all negative comments on this site, that nobody so far has launced a class action against the Bosh company. This is extremely profitable company which produces a lot of other expensive items, well beyond home appliances. If only 50 is true what people write about this company home appliances, a class action should be taken and force this company either close their shop or return people the money they spent on their defective products. I wonder why some lawyers do not pursue an action against the Bosh company. They can make a lot of money as thousands of people cannot lie, the machines can be tested by experts to confirm or dispel the negative evaluations.
