Ideal for holiday feeding. The design of the feeder is also good, but the electronics are not.I did build a metal cage around it to keep the raccoons out. I would recommend this feeder to everyone. You can set several feed times. I did not have a problem with the mechanical operation of the unit. The unit was positioned on a screw on a plank that was leveraged by a large rock on the rear. So, the feeder jutted out over one end of the pond by about a foot. This worked fine. But, I found the unit in the water once in the first six months. I figured an animal such as a possum had pushed it over. I do not recall if the feeder base (which has the display) went into the water or just the feed housing top part. All the food was soaked and ruined. The unit still worked fine, at least for awhile. In September 2015 I tried to adjust the feeding amount and found the LED display was not functioning. It probably had been out for months. I was told by a Pond Supply Store that he had had customers complain that prolonged sun exposure caused the LED display on the Fishmate P7000 to fade. The store owner recommended the Koi Cafe feeder, which is much more expensive. Nonetheless, because the Koi Cafe needs to be hung over the pond, and a pole structure is not possible or desirable in my rocky back yard and I do not have a suitable overhanging tree branch, i am going to replace the bad unit with a new Fishmate P7000 since it is such a good bargain and can be located on the ground. I will put some removable dark tape over the LED to block the sun. Easy to set up with a little initial investment of time and learning. Instruction manual is easy to follow and is can be found online. Mechanical parts seemed to function well and be fairly durable. Can set multiple feed times and vary amount of food. Is inconspicuous looking and is a nice forest green color. The two side snaps on the lid could be firmer as they seemed to have weaked a bit over time. The feed housing that sets on top of the feeder base does not lock into the base but simply snugly sits ontop of it. I found the housing tipped over and in the water on one occassion probably by a large animal such as a possum. I wish it snapped in to the base.http://alkhalil-eg.com/userfiles/ez-cam-manual.xml (Perhaps it is not snapped in because the manufacturer does not want the base to go in the water, too, should the entire unit be tipped in. However, that raises another issue -- why does the feeder not come with eyelets so that it can be wired to a board?) You should also make sure the base is securely fastened somehow to a board if possible and make sure the board also cannot be easily moved. This is not easily done due to the design due to the design of the product. One warning: make sure you snap the snaps on the feeder lid shut, or you will definitely have animals getting in to the food in the feed housing. Having used pond feeder block previously I was concerned to find a complete one in the pond that must have been added the previous year. I researched a number of automatic feeders and this Pond Mate feeder seemed a good compromise re price\features. I'm glad I did. There is no problem on either front - assembly is a doddle, and the instructions are quite clear if you take the trouble to read them. I had the unit sat on a box in the kitchen for the first few days to ensure the feed quantity and times were reliable. All spot-on. The feeder was installed outside and has since performed absolutely reliably. I just make sure its topped up, batteries are ok and leave it to it. As a precaution, I modified a good quality plastic bag to fashion a rain cover for the unit as one reviewer said rain water ingress had affected the LCD display. For the money this is an excellent product and have no qualms recommending it - in fact I have done so to my local aquatic centre as they had trialed a more expensive unit but weren't happy with it, so I've suggested this to them also. Easy assembly. Clear instructions. Accurate and reliable feed quantities and timing I would recommend it to a friend. Good design.I checked the motor was running, then I troubled shooting to find the problem of bearing locked, the motor could not rotate the bearing and feeding mechanism.https://www.airyachtnboat.com/en/article/drilling-well-control-manual-vol-11 I did not want to return this item. When I opened the feeder base, I reassembled the bearing position with the motor. This fish feeder has been running smoothly.Appears to be a sturdy unit but miserable programming interface. The instructions did not match the unit. Found a youtube video which really helped. We are 'tech savvy' and it just should not be this hard. I guess practice will make it easier. Also be aware that it uses regular C batteries not alkaline.Hopper tips easily even when unit is screwed down. Setup was a little tricky, but everything went well.It tested out well, and after ten days away, I could tell the food volume in the reservoir was decreased appropriately. Very pleased with everything about it.Turned out because I don't find it's as easy to program, it was me. First one is in its third season and still going strong. The seller had the BEST price also! The unit arrived very quickly and the instructions are very easy to follow. So far it appears to be working flawlessly. Overall, I am very satisfied with this purchase. Large enough for a couple of weeks of feeding. Appears to be quite sturdy. Feeds 3 portions (each can have different size) at three evenly spaced times of the day. The hopper seems to last about 2-3 week which is great for vacations. So far it is perfect. All trademarks, service marks, and trade names are proprietary to PetGuys.com or respective owners that have granted PetGuys.com, Inc. the right and license to use such marks. Takes away the hassle of getting friends to feed the fish while we're away, and use it now all the time. One less thing to do each day. Works well, delivery was fast once supplies were in. Were kept informed. Very helpful staff. Thank you. Once received and set up the feeder works well. The clock is not very accurate, loses time but only a minute or two over a few days. Overall very good. Perfect for the busy times in life and for trips away. I miss my daily contact with my fish though. They don't mind though and swarm around in advance of the feeding times. It does need weather protection though, certainly where I live. Strong winds and strong sun won't do it any favours. I wouldn't trust the hopper lid in really bad weather. Torrential rain may also cause a problem so I cover it with an old upturned kitchen bin, with a stone slab holding it down. This also keeps the sun off it, so the plastic will not degrade due to uv light. It can of course be screwed to a solid base. Excellent bit of kit! Easy to programme and holds enough food to feed fish 3 times a day for 2 weeks. Fantastic value for money. Thank you for your question. Assembly was simple and the the feeder sits neatly on the pond edge and the food is delivered into the pond via the spout. The food hopper is large and would easily cater for a week or more away. There are 3 daily food settings which you can set to suit your own needs, either once, twice or three times a day at times set by you. You can also set the amount of food delivered on each occasion. These are set up by an incremental number scale. Do not make the mistake of assuming as I did that these numbers equate to a second each, they are some kind of unit. Test the feeder out on a bench first so the food is delivered into a tray and weigh it. 5 units equates to about 17g and 10 units equates to about 33g. The measurements over a period of time are fairly accurate. Once tested and set up you are good to go and set it on the pond edge. All in all the product looks to be well made and does exactly what I asked it to do, feed my fish regularly whilst absent. I am pleased with what I have seen so far and have only not given it five stars as I want to test its reliability over an extended period and its claimed waterproof abilities. I will report back at a later date on this aspect. Edit - after a prolonged soaking in heavy rain this morning it seems to have passed its waterproof test. The food in the hopper remained bone dry and all is working well. Further update - I have has this running for about 3-4 weeks now and it delivers the right amount of food right on time every time. The clock seems to be very accurate so does the amount of food delivered. Really pleased with this product, it does exactly what is claimed. Excellent, upgraded to 5 stars. It delivers the right amount of food on time every day. I should just add that I use Tetra Pond Variety Sticks and these do NOT jam the mechanism or become moist and block the spout The weather proofing of this unit is very debatable the LCD screen already has moisture or condensation on the inside of the plastic window. This could potentially fail the electronics but with a 3-year warranty the unit will be simply Returned. This units reliability is rubbish failed within 5 weeks from purchase. The moisture condensation has affected the unit. Unit returned directly to fish mate. Admittedly they where VERY good.I have undertaken my own water proofing to stop water ingression and condensation. SEE IMAGES. I removed the entire bottom covered it in 3x layers of cling film reported bottom plus added some to battery cover. Please try again later. From United KingdomIt came with adequate instructions to suit my needs although it took a little getting used to at first but once mastered the digital settings are fairly easy really. Robert A. 5.0 out of 5 stars Flexible programming - either three measured feeds per day, or continual smaller feeds. Large capacity hopper, which kept my pellets bone dry even in the wettest weather. I also had fantastic customer service from Fish Mate after my unit developed a slight problem. They immediately sent a Freepost address for me to send the base part back, and it was fixed and back with me within three days. (The issue was a faulty reed switch in the base unit - so a component issue - the unit itself is very well made). Please try again later. Please try again later. Ymugmike 4.0 out of 5 stars I have now fixed half a large Christmas bauble sphere cut out to slide over the outlet arm. Rain is not able to now reach the feed pellets. Attaching the unit to a wooden plank so that there is a better overhang from the pond edge meant filing down the sides of the rear screw as there was no ledge to slide it over as with the front two screws. Once the timer has been setup along with your preferred measure for each feed, it works without any further maintenance. Even when the clocks changed there was no need to interfere as the earlier feed coincided with the shorter daylight. Large hopper to keep the fish happy for quite a while, especially when your are on holidayPlease try again later. Please try again later. RICHARD D. 4.0 out of 5 stars Downside is that you have to secure it yourself eg screw to coping stone as its very light and will easily blow over in the wind. The feeding nozzle is a little short too. Also overfeeding as if you're not there for the day or more how do you know that your fish are even eating the food. I've set mine up and taken it away three times in two months already as it was causing high ammonia in the pond due to overfeeding. The lowest setting still lets out quite alot of food. All that said in the right pond and right time of year with careful management its a good product i do like it.Please try again later. Please try again later. teragram 5.0 out of 5 stars It took a while to get the timer sorted but this only has to be done once so no big deal. As the feeder 'drops' the food into the pond we made a 'mini diving board' structure to enable the food to drop away from the plant shelf into the centre of the pond. Would suggest an upturned bucket strapped down to keep it dry and prevent it being blown into the pond. Would recommend. Had the top of the feeder (with food in it) stored in our summer house during the recent cold spell, for a couple of days. This time I have wrapped wire around the spout after re-taping it. A metal spout would be more suitable in cases like this. Has any one got any good ideas as to how I can protect my fish food from the rats. The fact that our fish may not get there food would be a worry to us if we were to go away for a longer period of time. All suggestions gratefully received. The machine itself does what it says it will do so I would still recommend but be careful that it is place in a rat free environment. Please try again later. Please try again later. Loulou M 4.0 out of 5 stars It was very, very frustrating and at first I thought I would never work it out. However, after much bad language I worked it. Now it is up and running it has been brilliant and reliable. It is easy to refill and although it has lost a couple of minutes in time over the last 6 months it works perfectly. I do cover it with a plastic cover as the lid is a bit loose for my liking but on the whole this has been a godsend for me when on holiday. It is definitely worth the money if you have the patience to read and re read the instructions. Please try again later. Please try again later. Janech 4.0 out of 5 stars The only problem we had was that Russell (the local crow!) figured out that if he tapped on the spout he could get food out - not for himself but as bait!!! He tapped the spout, the fish came up for food and Russell grabbed them and ate them. We came back from holiday to find the feeder on top of the mesh, half submerged. On checking our CCTV cameras we discovered that Jamie (the local Foxx!) had been into the pond, pushed the feeder over, and stood on the mesh to get to the food, which resulted in the feeder ending up under enough water to get into the mechanism, the lcd display and the hopper. By the time we got to it, the food was waterlogged and mouldy and the unit was steamed up and wouldn't work even after drying it out so it went in the bin. I thought I'd just buy another unit but can somebody tell me when they almost tripled in price??? I'm sure I paid about ?30 for ours so couldn't believe it when I discovered Amazon now want nearly ?80! Time for the Heath Robinson in me to get on the case. For those with larger bank account than mine, I would happily recommend this feeder. Mine was reliable and always fed them twice a day as programmed. The hopper is one of the largest you can get but it still only held enough food for about 12 days (we've got 80 fish), but it was not to much of an imposition to ask my neighbour to top it up every 10 days while we were away, not like having to ask him to go in every day to feed them. Please try again later. Please try again later. Disappoint buyer !!!! 1.0 out of 5 stars This could potentially fail the electronics but with a 3-year warranty the unit will be simply Returned. Richard English 2.0 out of 5 stars Then the display started to flash and, hidden away in the instructions is a note that this means that the feeder is blocked. Well, it wasn't but I cleared everything just to be sure and the unit continued to work for about a year with the display flashing. Then the screen froze completely and would accept no programming. On replacing the batteries the clock display went to 1200 and the time couldn't be set and so the unit was useless. So I spoke to the company and their response was that the electronics had failed and the unit was scrap. As the unit was out of guarantee they would make no allowance and couldn't repair the unit. Well, electronics shouldn't fail in such a short period and I will not be buying a replacement from Fish Mate. Don't waste your money. Please try again later. Please try again later. Date Product Score Customer Comment 23-Sep-2020 P7000 Pond Fish Feeder - Battery Powered I have been using the feeling now for about 2 weeks it feeds 3 times a day on time.No problems with it so far but I do not like the fact that the food holder does not sit securely into the feeder and I worry it could get knocked over by a cat. Other than that seems to be a good piece of kit. 19-Aug-2017 P7000 Pond Fish Feeder - Battery Powered Fantastic product no problems, does what it supposed to do. Jackk 5.0 out of 5 stars We live out in the country with no neighbors who could come up on a daily basis. We filled the feeder and set it to feed once a day then left for two months. When we came home it was almost empty. I did put it in a 5 gal.The racoons tried there best to get at it they knocked several plants into the pond and damaged the vent in the top but it survived. We couldn't be happier. I am obliged to several of the other reviewers for pointing out problems they had experienced they are what guided my bucket dezign.I can see why there are many negative feedbacks from the reviews. Thank you for sharing your ideas with the cover to protect it against the rain and wet weathers. I also made one for my feeder. One hole on side of bucket for the spout to poke out. Then I taped the gap of the side hole. Again, thanks for sharing great ideas. Does it look ghetto. So I'm perfectly ok with this cover ideaI've been using it for over a year now and it's worked flawlessly. I read reviews that said battery life is short but I'm still using the same batteries from 13 months ago without failure. I'll replace it soon as I don't want to take any chances the fish miss a feeding. One caveat, you MUST have some type of shelter to put this unit it if you live in an area that has wildlife such as raccoons, fox, or squirrels. They'll surely destroy your feeder or dump all the food in the pond. You can see how I built this automated system with a wireless camera to make sure the fish are fed when I'm on vacation. That being said, It is very light duty for outdoor applications. It reminds me of your everyday Tupperware type containers. I took other reviewers advice and built a bucket housing for it. This makes it much more useful. I wish that there was a competitive feeder available. This unit is incredibly expensive for what it is, probably because there is no competition. A sturdy outdoor version that did not require home-made upgrades would be worth the price. It is pretty easy to put together, and it seems like a good design. You need to follow the directions to program it. First you set the clock, then you go through and set up to three feedings per day, with a specific amount of food for each feeding. You should go through the calibration part of the process to measure how much food is dispensed at a level 10, then adjust up or down for your specific number of fish and size of pond. We have three Koi and have adjusted down from our original estimates because we were finding a lot of uneaten food in the pond. The hardest part for us was positioning the feeder where it could dispense in the pond, and be safe from the raccoons and other animals that sneak into our backyard from the woods behind our fence. We liked the bucket idea to protect the feeder from sun, rain, and pests. We found that our cat litter buckets worked perfectly, and it has a handle to hang it by. We just happened to have a pole from an unused bug-zapper that has worked well for us so far. We like this setup so well we may use this full time instead of just when we go on vacation. I would like to find a way to have more flexibility in positioning it over the pond, but that may take a little more work. After using this a while we have discovered that ours isn't lasting quite a week on only 1 feeding per day on the lowest setting. Not sure why, but it may be the raccoons. I have seen them sticking their little paws up the spout I assume to pull out more fish food. We were gone a week and it was empty when we returned. Guess we will need to put it out of reach of the raccoons or find a mesh to put over the spout that will keep their paws out. We still like it, but needs more work.It works fine when it's inside and undisturbed, but it's volatile outside. I usually keep it inside and hand feed my koi, but when I travel, I mount it to a 2x8 board that spans across the pond. On several occasions, the ENTIRE contents of the hopper has emptied into the water. This is extremely poorly designed. The hooper feeds the chute by gravity, and the chute moves the desired amount with a corkscrew that pushes the desired amount of food at the time you select. The corkscrew is only half the diameter of the chute, so food naturally moves around it. I've had this for a month and had no issues with it indoors. I had two trips this month (one 5 days, one 7 days) and in both weeks, I've returned to an empty feeder, pond full of food, and my fish in murky water.
